POLITICS – They seized the opportunity. Several left-wing personalities proposed their ideas after the broadcast of Emmanuel Macron's 2025 wishes this Tuesday, December 31, during which he affirmed that he would ask the French to “to slice” of the “determining subjects” during this new year.
Very quickly, this announcement was seen as the premises of a future referendum or a citizens' convention. The head of state, however, did not specify on which subjects he wished to consult the French, so the left put its own ideas on the table… which are not likely to please the president.
“Since Emmanuel Macron announces that he wants to use a referendum, let him start with a referendum on pensions”tweeted the ecologist Sandrine Rousseau, in reference to this reform adopted painfully at the end of 2023 and which part of the political class wants to at least modify, at best abolish.

Pension reform, staying in power or not…
LFI MP Gabrielle Cathala had the same idea, wishing “the repeal of retirement at 64”. The same goes for his Génération.s colleague Tristan Lahais: “Since he announces, without saying it explicitly, that he wants to resort to a referendum, let the President organize it on pension reform. »
Others are more radical and simply demand that the referendum be on his departure (or not) from the Elysée before the end of his mandate in 2027. “The President of the Republic, responsible for the political, economic and social chaos, announces that he will consult the French in 2025 in order to resolve certain issues. The first referendum will have to focus on whether or not he remains in power. He has to leave, and quickly! »wrote LFI vice-president of the National Assembly Nadège Abomangoli. “The first “determining subject” to “decide” is that of his departure”also judged his rebellious colleague Bastien Lachaud.

For his part, Alexis Corbière does not want to hear about a referendum, a constitutional tool already mentioned by Emmanuel Macron on several occasions but ultimately never used since 2017. “The referendum he is proposing is anti-democratic since he will be the only one to draft the question,” hail the ex-LFI.
Judged responsible for the political crisis that has taken hold in the country since the dissolution of the National Assembly in June, Emmanuel Macron is called for resignation by numerous personalities of La France insoumise au Rassemblement national. Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Marine Le Pen are even already preparing for an early presidential election. But Emmanuel Macron has been firm: he does not intend to leave power before the end of his mandate.
