Very gradually, Google Maps is swallowing up the functionalities of its sister app, also owned by Google, Waze.

Google Maps has been showing current traffic jams for some time now and is even capable of predicting traffic slowdowns in the days to come. For this, however, Google had to rely primarily on data from Waze, where users had the possibility to report current problems.

But now all this will also be possible on Google Maps directly. Indeed, it is now possible to notify Google Maps of the existence of a problem that you encounter on your route (if you are in “navigation” mode): a new button resembling a comic bubble will allow you to choose the type of road problem you have just encountered. Very practical, for example, if you encounter a deviation not anticipated by the app, because Google Maps will be able to recalculate your route accordingly. But that’s not all, because the application will also take the data in question into account to help other motorists, thus preventing the appearance of potential traffic jams.

Note that in addition to accidents, traffic jams and work zones, the app also allows you to report mobile speed cameras, stationary vehicles and objects on the road.

The functionality is currently only valid in beta version, but it will not be long before it arrives for ordinary people.
