For the fourth time in his career, Tosha Schareina will compete in the Dakar Rally in 2025. This marks his second appearance as a Monster Energy Honda rider, following a difficult 2024 season in which he fractured his wrist but has everything even managed to secure third place in the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC).
In an interview with the official Dakar website, the Spaniard reflected on last year’s unfortunate accident and the confidence he gained throughout the following season and during the Morocco Rally:
– We had a great season in 2023, and I was looking forward to the 2024 Dakar. We started by winning the prologue round, but on the first stage I crashed and was forced to abandon the race. I was riding in a very comfortable zone, without taking any risks, and I fell to a place where I felt very comfortable. Maybe I was too relaxed. More than the pain of the fall, it was the emotional pain, because Honda had placed its trust in me, and I could not repay that trust during the race. I had a plate and several screws, and the next month I was back on the bike racing in Japan with Honda. And finally, the 2024 season was incredible. I am improving considerably on all terrains and doing well at the Morocco Rally, which has given me the confidence to take on this Dakar. I am gaining the experience I need, which is fundamental in this sport.
Schareina then spoke about his goals, emphasizing that he wants to fight for the title: ‘It’s an honor to be one of the Spaniards trying to succeed great legends like Nani Roma and Marc Coma. I hope one day this will happen. Win the 2025 Dakar? You must always aim for victory in the Dakar, just like in any other race. I have more experience, and the accident in 2024 will keep me on my guard. I have a chance to be in the fight for victory in the motorcycle category. I showed this throughout 2024 and…. Why shouldn’t I be out there fighting for victory?’.
