Jorge Martin penalized for MotoGP Dutch GP

Between Jorge Martin and Pecco Bagnaia, the mimicry continues. During MotoGP’s last outing in Italy, the Italian received a three-place grid penalty for impeding Alex Marquez in Practice. On Saturday, from the following round in the Netherlands, Jorge Martin imitated his great rival by also being penalized for interference.

The world championship leader slowed down on the line in qualifying and almost unseated Raul Fernandez who was arriving on his Trackhouse Racing Aprilia. Jorge Martin, who will join the Noale brand next season, set the second fastest time in qualifying and fell to 5th place on the grid.

Alex Marquez on the front line

This allows Alex Marquez (Ducati Gresini) to join the first row behind Maverick Vinñales (Aprilia) and polesitter Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati), winner of the sprint and big favorite for victory. Jorge Martin will absolutely have to come back quickly to try to deprive the double world champion of a success that is within his reach, because the gap between the two men is melting like snow in the sun.

The Pramac driver now only has a 15-point lead over his rival, while he had 39 at the end of the Catalan GP sprint race. But since then, Bagnaia has been uncompromising and has won the last four races contested, sprint and Grand Prix combined. Jorge Martin begins to feel the breath of the number 1 on the back of his neck.
