Chris Tanev was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs by the Dallas Stars for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 draft and forward prospect Max Ellis.

The 34-year-old defenseman has completed the final season of a four-year contract signed with the Calgary Flames on October 9, 2020 and could become an unrestricted free agent on Monday. However, the Maple Leafs could sign him to a new contract before then.

Tanev had 19 points (two goals, 17 assists) in 75 regular-season games with the Stars and Flames this season, including five points (one goal, four assists) in 19 games after being acquired by the Stars in a trade with Calgary on Feb. 28.
