Chris Tanev was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs by the Dallas Stars for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 draft and forward prospect Max Ellis.
The 34-year-old defenseman has completed the final season of a four-year contract signed with the Calgary Flames on October 9, 2020 and could become an unrestricted free agent on Monday. However, the Maple Leafs could sign him to a new contract before then.
Tanev had 19 points (two goals, 17 assists) in 75 regular-season games with the Stars and Flames this season, including five points (one goal, four assists) in 19 games after being acquired by the Stars in a trade with Calgary on Feb. 28.
Tanev recorded two assists in 19 games in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, as the Stars were eliminated in six games by the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference final.
