Mike Grier has been the most active GM in the NHL since last week.

In the last few days, he acquired Jake Walman from the Red Wings, he traded for the services of Ty Dellandrea, he claimed Barclay Goodrow on waivers…

And now he has just made (another) transaction.

Indeed, the Sharks traded their 14th pick as well as the 42nd selection of the next draft to the Sabres in return for the 11th overall pick.

The CEO of the Sharks therefore ensures that he advances a few places during the first round, but above all he ensures that he has two choices in the top-11.

The Sabres made the announcement on Twitter:

It’s interesting because usually, these transactions end up on the floor at the draft.

That said, this is the second such trade that has taken place, as the Islanders and Blackhawks made a similar transaction a month ago:

I guess Mike Grier has a player in mind.

Did he want to move up to 11th because he was afraid of seeing the Flyers (12th) or the Wild (13th) draft the guy he likes?

And if that’s the case, can we think about Cole Eiserman, who was seen by many as the 2nd best forward behind Celebrini at the beginning of the year?

From the perspective that the Flyers like the American and from the perspective that Eiserman and Celebrini are two great chums

This can be very logical:

The other guess I have is that he wants to make sure he gets a chance to get one of the top five defensemen in the draft…

Which may not have been possible with the 14th pick.

After all, it is very possible that Zeev Buium, Sam Dickinson, Anton Silayev, Artyom Levhsunov and Zayne Parekh have already left at that rank.

The Sharks will therefore have the opportunity to draft the best player in the draft in Macklin Celebrini and with the 11th pick, all scenarios are possible.

We’re in rebuilding mode in San Jose… Does it show? Hehe.

No kidding, I’ve been really enjoying Mike Grier’s work the last few days.

The team is heading in the right direction.

Note also that just after the transaction with the Sabres, the Sharks Also transacted for the services of Carl Grundstrom.

I said it at the very beginning of the text, but Mike Grier is a busy man at the moment:
