In order to avoid any unwanted invoicing, it is necessary for owners of a home or for people who have moved during the year 2023 to complete their real estate declaration.

After the income tax return and all the requests from the tax authorities, it seems that not everything is yet in place for some. French owners must absolutely ensure that they have completed their real estate declaration before July 1st, otherwise they risk receiving a fine.

Concretely, owners of housing, new or not, as well as people who moved during the year 2023 are affected by this approach. You must therefore go to the Impots.gouv website to enter your situation.

A mandatory declaration at the risk of paying a fine of €150, according to the service-public.fr website. As a reminder, this is a way for the tax administration to check whether owners must pay housing tax on second homes or vacant accommodation.

6.12 million taxpayers affected

Clearly, if a change in situation was made between January 2, 2024 and January 1, 2024, this declaration must be made. Social landlord, owner-occupier or not, SCI… everyone is concerned.

However, if a declaration of occupation was made in 2023 and the situation has not changed, this is not necessary. Furthermore, that same year, 34 million taxpayers would have been affected, according to the Public Finances report, and 82% of them would have paid correctly. This would therefore be 18% of them, or 6.12 million people, for whom this process would be mandatory.

For taxpayers directly concerned, this process can obviously also be done online. Simply go to the Public Finance website, then click on “manage my real estate”. The rest of the procedure is then explained.
