For his final season within the Ducati fold, Jorge Martin is playing big. Currently leading the drivers’ championship, the Spaniard is 18 points ahead of his rival Francesco Bagnaia. The Madrilenian is surely experiencing the most intense season of his career. Since the start of the year, the “Martinator” has had a string of good results. In the first seven rounds of the season, the Pramac driver won two races in Portugal and France. His victories in the sprints also help him hold on to the championship.

But at the beginning of June, Jorge Martin decided to take a new turn in his career. He announced his collaboration with the Aprilia team from 2025. Unable to recover the official handlebars of the Ducati factory team, the current championship leader turned to another official motorcycle. The coming of Marc Marquez into the fold spoiled Jorge Martin’s plans.

Fair treatment

In the fight for the world crown, the Spaniard does not intend to give up. Last year, the title was decided until the last Grand Prix of the season in Valencia. But it was Pecco Bagnaia who emerged victorious at the end of the championship. For 2024, Jorge Martin does not want to repeat the same mistake. In an interview with our colleagues at Motorsport.com, his manager Albert Valera spoke about the treatment of his rider within the Italian firm. He hopes to count on Ducati to treat him fairly with his other comrades. In view of his departure, he could gather important information on the GP24 at Aprilia.

“With Jorge, Ducati now has the opportunity to demonstrate that they have kept intact the values they defend. Since Jorge signed with Ducati, he has always been treated as an official rider, with an official bike, and at all times he has received the same developments as the factory riders. They have always stuck to it and I am convinced that they will continue to do so. Out of respect for the championship, for their riders and for all Ducati fans. There are contracts that stipulate this, and whether you like it or not, it always generates trust and peace of mind. This is why we have remained calm all these years.”

“Pramac is a great team that has the support of Ducati, and that has been key to understanding Jorge’s results. Last year we had the support of Ducati at all times, and if we didn’t win the championship it was probably due to a lack of experience going into the last races, when the title was at stake. Now Jorge comes into this kind of situation better prepared, and I am sure that if Ducati maintains the treatment that is contractually stipulated, Martín will have the tools and the opportunity to fight for the championship. ”
