Retired since 2020, former Senegalese international Lamine Sané has begun a new phase in his career. At 37, the former defender of the Girondins de Bordeaux joined the technical staff of the Lionceaux U17. The team is currently playing its qualification for the CAN U17, with a decisive match against Guinea-Bissau in the semi-finals of the UFOA A tournament.
Sané told Afrik-Foot.com that he recently obtained the UEFA A diploma, after training as a coach for three years. He is in Senegal to support Pape Faye, the U17 coach, while continuing to learn in a setting different from that of Europe. He expressed his gratitude to the Senegalese football federation for this opportunity.
Concerning the senior Lions team, Sané believes that it is still too early for him to aspire to it. Despite the love he has for the team, he prefers not to skip ahead in his new coaching career.
Asked about his best memory with the Lions, Sané recalled a memorable match against Cameroon during the CAN 2012 qualifiers. He particularly remembers the atmosphere at Stade Senghor after Demba Ba’s decisive goal, describing the stadium as having “trembled like never before”.
