Happy resumption of outdoor winter sports on the North Shore

With the return of a few centimeters of snow after a lot of rain, the North Coasters happily brought out the snowmobiles, skis and sledders this weekend. Gallix Station, the cross-country ski trails of Club Rapido, as well as the slides and walking trails of Holliday Park welcome dozens of families this Saturday. Outdoor rinks will require a little preparation.

At Mont-Ti-Basse in Baie-Comeau, alpine skiing resumed on Friday with a layer of fresh snow. At Gallix Station, good alpine skiing conditions have also been offered since this Saturday morning, in addition to the opening of the slides, snowshoe trails and the restaurant.

Many snowmobilers returned to their mounts this morning after a few days of break imposed by the rain at the beginning of the year. It will have melted almost all the snow available at Christmas, but the ground remained frozen enough to restart the season with the new snow. Snowmobile clubs are returning to work to rehabilitate the trans-Quebec trail on the North Shore.

The Sept-Îles region received 4 to 8 cm of snow, depending on the area yesterday and today. It remains to be hoped that temperatures will remain fairly cool in the coming days. Environment Canada is forecasting cold weather almost everywhere in Quebec from January 5 to 11. The Côte- and Nord-du-Québec will be exceptions. The meteorological service predicts temperatures between -1 and +3°C between Tuesday and Thursday in Sept-Îles.
