The 2024 cultural year in Chad was marked by several events that celebrated the country’s artistic diversity, despite some notable absences. From Music to humor, hip-hop and artistic innovation, the festivities highlighted local and international talent.
The cultural year kicked off with the third edition of the “New School Power” festival, which was held from January 23 to 27 at the French Institute of Chad. The big absence of the year remains the N’djam Hip Hop festival, usually organized between March and April. This event, which rewards established and emerging rappers, unfortunately did not take place, leaving a gap in the cultural calendar.
Initially scheduled for June 21, the Music Festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture, was postponed to July 6 due to the fire at the Goudji powder magazine. Several sites across N’Djamena, such as Farcha, Abena, Diguel, Gassi and Walia, hosted the festivities.
In October, N’Djamena hosted the eighth edition of the Koura Gosso Festival, from October 21 to 28. The Urban Act festival, which was held from November 6 to 9 at the Espace Talino Manu and the Institut Français, welcomed Congolese rapper Jessy B, marking a highlight of her African tour.
The N’DjamVi Festival, from November 27 to 30, celebrated its 17th edition at the Don Bosco Center. Among the winners, Queena won the Young Talent Prize, Bakaroo Le Gang stood out in the Hip-Hop category, and Sobdiben shone with the World Music Prize. The Tourasna Show festival, organized from December 3 to 8 at the Talino Manu Cultural Space, invited Ivorian singer Rocky Gold for a colorful edition.
The second edition of the Chadian Laughter Prize, held on December 7, crowned the comedian Perle in the Kid category, Kalamtamani the K4G in Young Talent, and El Presidenté for the Web Humor Prize.
Unlike 2023, 2024 was a prolific year for album releases. Among the flagship projects we have Sappayo and his first album Mbi Ga Zo, Prince Vidalo with Nouvelle Décision, Bakaroo Le Gang and his opus Da Al Kef and Hono Solo with Jeunesse Agrotech.
The DTV Musique Awards which usually take place at the end of the year are not taking place this year.
The sixth edition of the Dary Festival, which began on December 21, will continue until January 4, 2025, closing the year with a grandiose celebration of Chadian culture.
