Due to the France-Netherlands match at Euro football, France 2 announced that the big evening of the Fête de la Musique, recorded this evening, will only be broadcast this Saturday, June 22. 22:42 – Emmanuel Macron’s appeal to the French, on the occasion of the Music Festival
The President of the Republic spoke this Friday evening on the occasion of the Music Festival. Given the political context, Emmanuel Macron did not fail to defend, once again, his choice to dissolve the National Assembly, claiming to have taken “a decision of trust in the people”. “We must not be afraid for next June 30. We must go and vote, we must convince and we must vote responsibly,” declared the Head of State, before adding: “There are plenty of differences respectable, […] but there are extremes that we cannot let pass.”
22:20 – What to do in Rennes for the Music Festival?
In Rennes, as everywhere in France, music will be celebrated in the four corners of the city, in parks, bars, streets and theaters. Here are some ideas for outings for this Fête de la Musique evening:
- Thabor Park in celebration : throughout the evening, numerous rock, pop, rap and electro concerts are organized.
- Techno and electro Esplanade du Général de Gaulle : from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., the affluence collective, the villainous waves & techno processes, electronic music offer a series of free concerts.
- Traditional music Place Hoche : from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. with the Celtic Circle of Rennes, traditional music and dances from around the world.
21:54 – Véronique Sanson in concert for the Fête de la Musique
Note for this 2024 edition of the Music Festival, several headliners, notably the concert by Véronique Sanson in Noisy-le-Grand, which will take place from 9:30 p.m. Place de la Libération, in front of the town hall!
21:28 – RATP celebrates music
Like every year, the RATP joins the Music Festival with several events in the Paris metro. This year, three choirs are invited to perform in the different stations, all day long. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the choir Les Voisins du Dessus will perform at Charles de Gaulle – Etoile station, for example.
9:04 p.m. – Johnny Hallyday for the Fête de la Musique
If you don’t want to leave the house this evening, it will be possible to celebrate music also from your sofa with in particular the broadcast on France 3 of a concert tribute to Johnny Hallyday, created and directed by the musical director by the deceased singer, Yvan Cassar and recorded in Nice in 2022.

In this eventful year – not because of its political news, because of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris this summer, the Music Festival is placed this year under the sign of the fanfare! Obviously, Nantes is no exception to the rule and is preparing to thrill the people of Nantes everywhere in the streets, bars or parks on the occasion of the Music Festival. Here are some ideas for outings:
- A Fest-noz at Duchess Anne Square : via the Pas de Sept, the Nantes Conservatory and the Bagad de Nantes, from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
- Mixtures of genres in Bas-Chantenay : Little Atlantique Brewery, le Dahu, Les Usines, Chantenay Village, 30BDC, OHM Town & Macadam join forces to make the entire Bas-Chantenay area vibrate, with an eclectic program.
- World music Halgan square : from 7 p.m., several artists including a concert by 15 singers from Nantes Gospel, the Arrivée choir from Air Snow, Vocaswing or the capoeira of Jogo Diferente.

Ultra popular in France, the Fête de la Musique has also been exported abroad, becoming a national event in several countries (Luxembourg, Italy, Greece, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia) or in many large metropolises like New York, Berlin or Mexico. In 2017, more than 120 countries celebrated Music Day.

Since its creation in 1982 by the Ministry of Culture, the Music Festival has been set on a unique and symbolic date: June 21, the day of the summer solstice, but also the longest day of the year. Normally, we should be able to count on a sunny day…
It was 1981, Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, appointed Maurice Fleuret to the post of director of music and dance. Together, they are working on the creation of a huge cultural event that would put music and creation in the spotlight across the country.

The very first Music Festival was launched on June 21, 1982, the symbolic day of the summer solstice, the longest of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.
