Last Tuesday, during the semi-final of the Throne Cup 2023the supporters of the Raja of Casablanca made a memorable trip to Agadir, to experience a moment of communion with the players and celebrate two exploits: qualification for the final and above all the title of the Bottle Pro You D1 2023-24The National Professional Football League had initially postponed the match from Friday to Tuesday, before announcing the festivities celebrating the Moroccan champion in Agadir for the same day.

In addition to Ultras and regulars, thousands of supporters answered the call, with nearly 30,000 fans crowding into the stands of the Adrar stadium. After 120 minutes of play and a game full of twists and turns, the Greens snatched the qualifying ticket for the final of the 2023 Throne Cup at the expense of Mouloudia d’Oujdawho did not deserve it. The joy was double and the celebration lasted until midnight. The supporters of the MCOwhich did not exceed 200, were evacuated just after the final whistle. The police then began to ensure the passage of the do you support Rajamost of which were to take the ring road leading directly to the motorway.

At one o’clock in the morning, we tried to follow the same path, but the tragedy had already occurred. Dozens of cars vandalized, with windows smashed, following stone throwing. Among the victims, several groups of supporters, but also families. The president of Raja de Casablanca, Mohamed Boudrika, then published a message of solidarity with “one of the players of the team”, whose wife and daughter aged just 2 years old were among the victims. The supporters then announced that it was Naoufal Zerhounithe striker who scored twice on Tuesday against Mouloudia.

As we left the stadium, we initially wanted to take the road into town, but the police officers refused to allow us to do so, assuring us that stone throwing was still causing casualties there. We had to take the ring road and then take a detour into town. When we passed by, more than twenty cars were still there, with broken windows and terrified passengers. “We couldn’t even anticipate. It was dark and we could only see the stones after the impact with the car. The vandals weren’t even visible, set up higher than the road, in the dark. Fortunately, the police officers quickly raided the scene, otherwise the number of casualties would have been higher,” said Rachid, a supporter who saw the windshield of his friend accompanying him shatter. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported on Tuesday.

The same fate reserved for AS FAR fans on Sunday

The acts of hooliganism Tuesday’s violence is not an isolated incident, since the same excesses were recorded on Sunday near the Adrar Stadium, but to a lesser extent. When the AS FAR supporterswe again found a road covered in shards of glass and projectiles. “Sometimes, when anger breaks out between the Agadir supporters and those from Rabat supporting AS FAR, you can’t even drive around calmly with a car registered in Rabat, here in Agadir. The problem is that the majority of these vandals are minors,” a photo-reporter living in Agadir and used to the spectacle of terror around the Adrar Stadium tells us. If they initially feared clashes with the fans of Maghreb of Fez, their opponent on Sunday, the supporters of AS FAR, like those of Raja, were finally victims of the acts of young hooligans, who call themselves supporters of Hassania d’Agadir and who fuel hatred between the ultras encouraging HUSA and those supporting AS FAR, RCA and many other clubs. On social networks, several screenshots circulated during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. Group administrators invited young people from Agadir to gather near the Adrar Stadium and the “Lirak” district, rallying the troops to sow fear in the ranks of visiting supporters and cause as much damage as possible before their departure.

Well before the Throne Cup semi-finals this week, several incidents of the same kind had been recorded in the last two years, mainly after matches involving AS FAR and Raja. Despite the efforts of the police and their positioning on several points, the hooligans continue to innovate and take advantage of the poor lighting to strike. The many vacant lots, strewn with stones around the stadium, make their task easier and provide them with a real arsenal. The scheduling of the Throne Cup final in Agadir, at the beginning of July, could give rise to a new dramatic episode, since the match is expected to pit Raja against AS FAR, the main teams targeted. The officials of the city of Agadir are called upon to propose concrete solutions in the very near future, to put an end to this phenomenon which tarnishes the image of Moroccan football, one year before the organization of the African Cup of Nations in the Kingdom.
