VAT, pensions, defense… The RN continues to renounce its project

POLITICS – It’s getting hard to follow. In an interview given to Parisian This Tuesday, June 18, the president of the National Rally, Jordan Bardella, reveals the project he wishes to implement in the event of victory in the early legislative elections. The opportunity for the MEP to try to clear up the vagueness surrounding his program but, above all, to release certain key measures.

Among them, the reduction in VAT on basic necessities, which was nevertheless presented by Marine Le Pen as a measure “ urgent “. Without setting a precise timetable, Jordan Bardella affirms Parisian that this will intervene “ in a second time “. Still in terms of purchasing power, the abolition of income tax for those under thirty (which would mainly benefit the richest) promised by the RN is no longer on the agenda.

Confusion over pensions

Same artistic vagueness regarding the repeal of the pension reform. While the RN’s leaders have continued to contradict themselves in recent days, the president of the RN announced that this would intervene “ from autumn ». An announcement that contrasts with the words of his new ally Éric Ciotti who, Monday evening on France 2, said “ that it is not said that the pension reform will be repealed “. What Jordan Bardella obviously didn’t appreciate: “It is the RN which leads this coalition”.

Quoted by AFP, RN candidate Jérôme Sainte-Marie adds confusion on the subject: “it takes a long time, it can be costly and worrying for partners or investors. The public accounts are a fairly heavy liner to maneuver, so it is not one of the immediate things to do”. Whoever can will understand.

Another measure that was included in Marine Le Pen’s program but which is no longer on the agenda: the ban on wearing the veil in public spaces. Here again, the method of the president of the RN is to postpone this promise (very legally shaky) indefinitely. “ This remains a goal », he replied to Parisianspecifying that this will not be done before 2027. At the end of last week, several observers noticed that the booklet “ Defense » from Marine Le Pen’s program had suddenly disappeared from the RN website. Near Politicothe Lepenist party has promised an upcoming clarification, faithful to the Bardella method of rejecting angry subjects.

“National denial”

It must be said that the document in question proposed “ an alliance with Russia », particularly on the military level. A sweep under the rug already initiated by Jordan Bardella during the European election campaign, when he declared that, ultimately, France’s exit from NATO’s integrated command would take place once peace was signed in Ukraine (this which was not the case in 2022). Unsurprisingly, these abandonments delight the opponents of the National Rally. “ The RN social program is now held on confetti », quips communist senator Ian Brossat. “All the measures that were proposed during the European campaign have disappeared. It is no longer the National Rally, it is national denial”tackled Bruno Le Maire on TF1.

In recent weeks, and even before the European elections, the party with the flame had promised to make public its “ economic booklet », aiming to update its program. However, this publication has constantly been postponed, and this economic roadmap is still awaited. This Tuesday, the website on which the RN hosted its 2022 program was suspended. Looking at the zigzags mentioned above, we can easily guess why.
