“A Family Affair” is not Netflix’s answer to Amazon’s “The Idea of You” even though both follow the same pattern of a celebrity falling in love with an older woman. While the age difference was at the center of the film with Anne Hathaway, it is almost never discussed here. The main obstacle between Chris and Brooke is Zara, the latter’s daughter who has a hard time seeing her mother with her boss especially since she knows very well her lack of seriousness with women. She wants to protect her, but not only that, because there is also a bit of selfishness on her part in relation to her missing father or the difficulty of living in her mother’s shadow. In the film, the characters exist through their fears and insecurities, but it is still a comedy that makes fun of these family misadventures. In terms of humor, what works best is this nice criticism of Hollywood with Chris Cole who is a parody of a self-centered and superficial actor full of absurd whims who only plays in commercial films that have neither head nor tail. Obviously, he is more than that and we discover it through this romance that unfortunately does not work at all. Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman are good, but they do not have romantic chemistry. Despite a few funny scenes, Carrie Solomon’s screenplay lacks consistency and this is felt quite quickly during the viewing… In the end, an average film, but watchable.

The film is really funny, we have a good time even if at certain times the film lacks rhythm, the film remains successful.

A nice and kind story of love and family that is good for morale. It takes place in the Hollywood world, a very comfortable world where everything is beautiful, but where relationships are often empty, or interested. How to find your way, how to distinguish love from interest or fanaticism, how to keep your feet on the ground when you are famous. Will the pretty mother Nicole Kildman, Zac Efron’s assistant, be able to open her heart to him and to her who has been in mourning for so long? These are subjects well handled by actors who have nothing more to prove. A beautiful moment of relaxation in front of this film.

Two very good actresses, Nicolas Kidman and Joey King, Unfortunately, the film is completely flat and hollow. A few funny lines that are not enough to lift a bland script.
