Deadpool & Wolverine is certainly a highly anticipated feature film: good news, it has just been officially rated R.
Blood and jokes
The least we can say is that Deadpool & Wolverine is expected at the turn. Already, because he likes to bring back Logan and the X-Men in general in the MCU and that seemingly nothing, it could prove decisive for the future of the extended universe. Also because after having a series of disasters and bludgeoning the public with films and series that are not always useful, this film (which is the only Marvel of 2024) promises a comeback.
Obviously, with Disney now in charge, there is reason to fear a more watered-down, or downright censored, vision for our favorite anti-hero. Nay : if you ever doubted it, the feature film has just been rated R in the United States. R-Rated corresponds to particularly violent films, reserved for a mature audience: are listed as “strong bloody violence and strong language, gore and other sexual references”.
A preserved tone
We are therefore reassured: the tone of the first two Deadpool, the violence and the irreverence specific to the character have clearly been preserved by Shawn Levy, the director. It had been announced for a while now that the goal was to make it an R-Rated film: it is now officially done.
Note that according to Insider and The Hollywood Reporter, Shawn Levy would also be tipped to direct Avengers 5, an extremely ambitious project which could bring together more than sixty characters from the MCU. If there isn’t Deadpool and a few X-Men in the mix, there would be plenty of room for scandal.
Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in theaters on Wednesday, July 24.
