An eventful return to school. Between 6:15 a.m. and 9:35 a.m., this Monday, January 6, 2025, train traffic was interrupted in both directions between Caen and Lison on the Cherbourg – Caen () line, but also on the Caen Granville line. It had already been disrupted on Sunday afternoon.

The cause was different this Monday, since two trees fell on the tracks towards Bayeux (Calvados). This fall caused a catenary incident, i.e. a power failure in the train network.

Catenary specialist agents carried out work on track 1, removing two uprooted trees and a third threatening one. The resumption of traffic has therefore been underway since 9:35 a.m.

This morning, twenty-one passengers were stranded on the track during the first journey of the day. They were picked up by a bus at 7:30 a.m. in Bayeux.

Around ten trains were canceled, the others experienced significant delays, so the railway company offered a refund or exchange of tickets via an internet link.

The conditions differ depending on your journey, with or without a TGV connection, with or without a Krono + reservation. Coaches are also available from Caen and Coutances station, provided you have a valid train ticket.

The Eure department is affected this Monday. Trains originating or at the terminus are canceled between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in anticipation of storm Floriane, under the decision of the -Sud-West region. A ticket exchange is also possible for affected customers.

As for the information concerning trains which would have been canceled between and (Seine-Maritime), they are ultimately not proven. “We received an alert, a train on the track was able to slow down and check if there were any trees blocking it, reports the SNCF. There is no problem on this line.”

This alert still led to the cancellation of three trains and a 45-minute delay for the one that had already left. Passengers can obviously request a refund for their trip.
