The former presenter of France 2's 8 p.m., Karine Baste, looks back on her departure and reveals her new project, a show dedicated to overseas. Between passion and serenity, she takes stock.
Karine Baste has lost none of her smile and enthusiasm. The former joker of the 8 p.m. show on France 2 has chosen to take a new direction, far from the spotlight of the television news. In an interview given to 7 Days TVshe told how she experienced her departure from the news. “Very good, contrary to what has been written in some media,” she said, referring to a carefully considered decision. For several months, she had been yearning for a turning point in her career and expressed her desires to the news department. Today, she approaches 2025 with infectious joy and a new professional challenge: a daily program dedicated to the wealth and challenges of overseas territories.
Discovering overseas France, this 26-minute program promises to shed light on sometimes little-known realities. “We are going to discover overseas France as we have never seen it”confides Karine Baste. On the program, varied themes combining local news, health, environment and history. The objective? Show that the problems encountered in these remote territories are often closer to French concerns than we imagine. As an example, she mentions the critical situation in Mayotte, where a third of the population lives in slums, worsening the consequences of natural disasters. Every Friday, the show will take on another dimension with a common guest, whether artist, politician or expert, to delve deeper into the subjects covered throughout the week.

If some saw in her departure a form of bitterness, Karine Baste denies it and prefers to emphasize the excitement which animates her in the face of this new project. “I’m going into this year with a smile from ear to ear!” she says. Accustomed to major television events, she is delighted to be able to devote her energy to a format that is particularly close to her heart. Through this program, Karine Baste wishes to raise awareness among the metropolitan public of the richness of overseas cultures and the challenges these territories face.
