PSG still titled, still no successor for LOSC during the Champions Trophy

The last winner of the Champions Trophy outside of Saint-Germain, LOSC could not count on AS Monaco to succeed it. The capital club wins its ninth title in the last ten years.

The years go by and are sometimes a little too similar. This is again the case this season with Paris Saint-Germain, who did not need to be flamboyant to claim a thirteenth Champions Trophy. This title has only been challenged once since 2013 and it was Jocelyn Gourvennec's LOSC in 2021. At the time, Xeka sent a missile into the Parisian cages for the Mastiffs to lift a second trophy in a few weeks. In addition to this feat, AS Monaco (x3), FC, FC , OM, Stade Rennais, OM, OL (x2), En Avant-Guingamp and Girondins de all bowed in turn. The Monegasques fell for the third time in less than ten years this Sunday (1-0), this time in Doha.

Preferred over Majecki in the cages of the Principality club, Philipp Köhn delayed the deadline for a long time by repelling Parisian attempts minute after minute. The Swiss, who made nine saves, gave his teammates the right to dream, who stumbled against Gianluigi Donnarumma's post (55'). But he ended up breaking down in the final moments of the match. Fabian Ruiz managed to break away from a destabilized Monegasque defense and deliver a fleeing cross. Gonçalo Ramos was on the trajectory, unlike Ousmane Dembélé who scored in the empty goal (90+2′) in the middle of added time. The French international, scorer of his ninth goal this season, thus offered Paris Saint-Germain the title.

Luis Enrique's men dominated, but did not need to shine to obtain a first evening of celebration in 2025. Undisputed leaders on the national territory, they still underline, through this success, the importance of feat achieved by LOSC in 2021, the only opponent to have succeeded in bringing down the Parisians during the QSI era. Only the Champions League seems to pose problems for them this season.
