Arte Povera: the exhibition on the Italian artistic movement at the Bourse de Commerce – last days

Arte Povera will be exhibited at the Bourse de Commerce in from October 9, 2024 to January 20, 2025. The opportunity to learn more about this Italian artistic movement, thanks to an impressive collection of works created by 13 main protagonists of Arte Povera.

L’Poor do you know? Italian artistic movement that appeared on the international scene in the 1960s, thePoor Artalso known as “ poor art », is honored at the Commerce Exchange. Through a large exhibition, to see from October 9, 2024, and until January 20, 2025the sublime Parisian monument located in the heart of the capital intends to retrace the Italian birth of this artistic movement, but also its international influence.

Among the artists closely associated with this movement, we can cite Giovanni Anselmo, Alighiero Boetti, Pier Paolo Calzolari, Luciano Fabro, Mario Merz, Marisa Merz, Giulio Paolini, Pino Pascali, Giuseppe Penone, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Emilio Prini or even Gilberto Zorio. So many artists, mainly from Turin, Genoa, Bologna, Milan and Rome, who have truly transformed the language of contemporary art by expanding the fields of painting, sculpture, drawing and photography.

From October 9, 2024 to January 20, 2025, the Commerce Exchange thus unveils an impressive selection of major works created by these thirteen main protagonists of Arte Povera. The exhibition “Poor Art“, which is curated by Carolyn Christov-Bakargieva specialist in the artistic movement, unveils, among other things, the important Arte Povera collection from the Collection Pinault« in resonance with works from the Castello di Rivoli museum and the Fondazione per l'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT “. Loans from several other major public and private collections, including those of Arte Povera artists themselves, are also on display for the occasion.

In total, 250 works are to be admired within this major exhibition, designed 100% for the spaces of the Bourse de Commerce. Thus, the entire building is crossed by this poetry and this energy of Arte Povera. And the discovery begins from the outside with “Stone ideas—1532 kg of light” (in French, “Stone Ideas—1532 kg of light), an imposing work signed Giuseppe Penone. Placed in front of the building, this bronze and river stone sculpture defines one of the major axes of Arte Povera: the fusion between nature and culture.

Before joining the Rotonde and the various galleries of the Bourse de Commerce, we are invited to walk through the show, where several creations are in the spotlight. Let us cite in particular “Untitled (Mattresses)” of Pier Paolo Calzolari. Here, the Italian artist imagined a series of six mattresses covered with cooling tubes, thus becoming like living beings.

Then head to the sublime and impressive Roundabout to admire a installation collective. Echoing each other, the ensemble highlights the work of the thirteen main artists. For example, there is the first carved tree of Giuseppe Penonethe first igloo of Mario Merzthe first refrigerated sculpture of Pier Paolo Calzolarior the astonishing smoking fountain ofAlighiero Boetti.

We head to the level of the Galerie 2 to learn more about the work of the Greek Jannis Kounellisand Italians Marisa Merz et Mario Merz who have truly contributed to revolutionizing the relationship with materials. The proof with these creations by Jannis Kounellis using coal, wool and fire. A return to an archaic form of reality.

Within the Galerie 3the artist Michelangelo Pistoletto plays with the image through its “ mirror paintings », for which he inserts figures, human, objectal or architectural, in wallpaper or screen printing.

We go up another floor to reach level 2 of the museum where the major works of Giulio Paolini, Luciano Fabro, Giovanni Anselmo or even Pino Pascali. The latter notably reveals his installation “Confluences” (1967), a surprising work in which water is incorporated.

We don't forget Pier Paolo Calzolari which transforms the space of gallery 6 into “Ideal home” ; a ” ideal house » white and frosty. For his part, Giuseppe Penone immerses us in its natural tree growth processes!

To finish, a quick tour of the lower level of the Bourse de Commerce is essential. It is here that Gilberto Zorio reveals to us “Glowing border” (1970); a work made from a metal wire, reddened by the heat of the electricity circulating there.
