Luc Berthold announced on Sunday that he has prostate cancer.

The Conservative Party of Canada (PCC) MP shared the news on the social network Facebook.
He is awaiting an operation. “After all the exams, some good news. The cancer has not grown out of the prostate, so it is treatable. This will be an operation, in Quebec, as soon as a place is available. The wait will be a few weeks, I was told. Some prostates have more advanced cancers than in my case and need to be treated more quickly. I understand, but… my prostate is bad and it’s potentially dangerous for the rest of my body. And I want her gone as soon as possible,” Mr. Berthold wrote.
He affirmed in his message that he retains his position as deputy. “I reassure you, I have no intention of resigning, and I will be a candidate for the next federal election for the new constituency of Mégantic-l’Érable-Lotbinière. »
Mr. Berthold, however, stressed that he will have to be absent for a few weeks after the operation. “It could happen at any time, the sooner the better, and maybe even during the upcoming election campaign,” he said.
“My priority will still be my health, so that I can continue to be with my family that I love for a long time,” he added. And I fully intend to be healthy and energetic to represent you in the next Conservative government for the next four years. »
Mr. Berthold was first elected under the CCP banner in 2015. He has won two more terms since.
He previously served as mayor of Thetford Mines from 2006 to 2013.
