The Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Jean Baptiste Tine announced, in a decision dated January 3, 2025, the appointment of several senior executives of the National Police. This restructuring aims to strengthen the efficiency of public security services across the country.
Among the major decisions:
- Commissioner Younousse DIEDHIOU, previously stationed in Fatick, now heads the Diourbel regional public security service.
- Commissioner Mor NGOM, previously in Diourbel, is assigned to the Interministerial Committee for the Fight against Irregular Migration (CILMI).
- Commissioner Mamadou Ndiaye FALL is appointed District Commissioner of Medina after having served in the office of the Director General of the National Police.
- Commissioner Cheikh Oumar SOW, former head of the National Interpol Central Bureau in Dakar, becomes Central Commissioner of Sédhiou.
- Commissioner Ameth Tidiane THIAM, previously at Point E, takes charge of the Ziguinchor Regional Public Security Service.
This series of appointments reflects the authorities’ desire to ensure a strategic distribution of human resources in the management of public security. It affects several key regions, including Fatick, Ziguinchor, Sédhiou, Kédougou and Matam.
Furthermore, notable changes have been made in urban and district police stations:
- Aïssatou KA, previously stationed in Kébémer, is now Urban Commissioner for Richard Toll.
- Malick DIENG, previously in Ziguinchor, takes over as head of public security in Fatick.
- Youssou NDONG is transferred from Sédhiou to Kédougou.
- Pathé GAYE becomes District Commissioner of Guinaw Rails, and El Hadji Aly GUEYE is assigned to Yeumbeul.
Strengthening the fight against crime
The appointment of several commissioners to strategic positions, such as the National Transport Security Brigade or the Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking (OCRTIS), demonstrates a renewed commitment to the fight against organized crime.
Key positions have been entrusted to experienced executives, including:
- Abou FAYE, new Commander of the National Transport Security Brigade.
- Bara SANGARE, assigned to OCRTIS after having headed the Dakar Urban Security.
- Adama WELLE, previously in Grand-Dakar, also joins OCRTIS.
The appointments also affect sensitive urban areas such as Pikine, Grand-Yoff, Rufisque, Jaxaay and Dieuppeul, with changes at the level of district police stations to respond to specific security challenges.
According to article 2 of the ministerial decision, these appointments take effect upon signature of the document. Transport and travel costs are covered by the general state budget, ensuring rapid and smooth implementation of the new measures.
The Director General of the National Police is responsible for the execution of this decision, which will be recorded and communicated wherever necessary.
