WORLD-SENEGAL-SOCIETE / The NGO ADHA recommends “urgent action” against the increase in irregular emigration – Senegalese Press Agency

Dakar, January 3 (APS) – Action for Human Rights and Friendship (ADHA) calls for “urgent action” to help deal with the intensification of migratory flows towards Europe, waves of departures which continue in “inhumane conditions” and in “the absence of suitable protection for migrants”, deplores this NGO.

In a press release, she “calls on those in power to take urgent action in the face of repeated shipwrecks [et aux] inhumane conditions in makeshift boats”, not to mention “the absence of suitable protection for migrants”, a situation illustrating “the failure of the international community to ensure safe and dignified migration”.

“This situation reveals not only the intensification of migratory flows, but also flagrant violations of fundamental rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Geneva Convention relating to the Status of Refugees,” notes this organization.

According to Action for Human Rights and Friendship, “46,843 migrants reached |the Canary Islands]” in 2024, “an increase of 17.4% compared to 2023”.

“Across the entire Spanish territory, 63,970 arrivals were recorded by sea and land, marking an increase of 12.5% compared to the previous year,” adds the ADHA organization.

Deeming these figures “alarming”, Action for Human Rights and Friendship expresses “its deep concern” about the migration crisis and urges African, European and international leaders “to become aware of the urgency of this situation” .

Statistics relating to migration are “not just numbers”, they are above all “human lives shattered by poverty, conflicts and inappropriate policies”, argues ADHA.

“It is time to respond to this tragedy with concrete actions, rooted in justice and respect for human rights,” adds ADHA.
