LSenegal will assume its sovereignty. And this, whatever the cost! This is the main information that our external partners will retain from the address of the Head of State. What will be the consequence of this? Attempt to answer!
It’s an exercise that’s part of the job. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, for his first message to the nation, accepted his wish to break with the practices of his time. If for the sake of form, heads of state increasingly opt for short speeches, Diomaye took his time to make himself heard and above all to be understood by his people. Who is not the only target or recipient of the message.
Indeed, if in the content the head of state wanted to bring people together by advocating participatory management, Diomaye decided to speak with the friends of Senegal with open eyes. Using diplomatic language, he very clearly indicated to Senegal’s partners that from now on our relations will have to take into account our sovereignty. In this sense, he confirmed the words of the Prime Minister during the general policy declaration before the National Assembly. Senegal will break with the foreign military presence. However, this decision does not mean any duel with any country.
After reading his speech, Senegal will no longer have a privileged partner. All our friends remain equal! This is what the President of the Republic clearly declared. This has the merit of being clear.
The wine being drawn, it will have to be drunk. And this, whether it is good on the contrary. In international relations, nothing is free. Senegal, which counted on its partners for occasional problems, will now have to realize that this facility will no longer be granted to us for two reasons: firstly, for the sake of consistency, Senegal must not extend its hand if it does not has nothing to offer. Second, what is the use for the partner to help a country without compensation?
