After focusing on extending as many players as possible who contributed to its accession to Pro B, Caen BC will formalize the signing of Pierre Hannequin this Monday. The 26-year-old playmaker is the first summer recruit for the promoted Caen.

Born in Dunkirk, trained in Gravelines, this tall leader (1.90 m) began his professional career in Avignon (N1), before joining Loon-Plage, then in Nationale 2, and progressing to N1, followed by unexpected success in the N1 playoffs, in 2023, alongside Antoine Rojewski.

Pierre Hannequin played this season at STB Le Havre, where he averaged 10.1 points and 4.4 assists. In the playoffs, he delivered a great performance in the playoffs against Caen BC (24 points at 8/10 shooting). Still under contract with STB, the player expressed the wish to discover Pro B.

“He has everything to settle at this level”

“I like tall leadersreacts Stéphane Eberlin. Pierre is coming off a good season on an individual level. He has an arm and a real ability to strike. A real analysis of the game, too. He is a former position 2 who moved to position 1 and who thinks basketball. He was able to get his hands dirty and question himself by going down a level when he joined Loon-Plage. He is a hard worker who has room for improvement. He has everything to settle in at this level. He reminds me of Timothé Vergiat who I took on at Souffel when he was playing in N1. He had the same season in Pro B as in N1, before joining Blois and discovering Pro A.

The Caen coach will therefore entrust the reins of his team to two French leaders. ”Pierre is complementary to Malela (Mutual) assures Stéphane Eberlin. J believes that the leaders are responsible for the state of mind of your team. And I place the team above everything else. There are no stars in my teams, only players serving the team. We know that in the end, foreigners often arrive to play a lot and make a name for themselves. If this guy thinks more about himself than the team, that won’t sit well with some people. With what we have experienced, the state of mind we have in the team, it is important to preserve that and it will be easier with French leaders. And in communication, we must not delude ourselves, it is easier to get messages across. Easier for them to understand us and for me to understand them.”
