2024 legislative electionsdossier

Under pressure from the left and her own camp, the outgoing deputy Renaissance, who came third in the first round, provoked a three-way race by refusing to withdraw despite the risk of electing the far right.

As expected, Anne-Laurence Petel filed her candidacy this Tuesday at the prefecture of Bouches-du-Rhône. It was not a foregone conclusion, given the uproar caused by the continuation of her candidacy in the 14th constituency of the department. On Sunday, in this territory which covers part of the Pays d’Aix, the outgoing Renaissance MP came third with 28.9% of the vote. Just behind Jean-David Ciot (29.5%), socialist invested by the New Popular Front (NFP) and MP for the territory until 2017, when Anne-Laurence Petel stole the constituency from him. Ahead of them, the RN-LR candidate (Ciotti channel), Gérault Verny, collected 31.6% of the vote.

Arithmetic question

The results were still hot on Sunday evening when the candidate announced to her supporters her decision to stay in the race. “With the agreement of Gabriel Attal and my party,” insists Anne-Laurence Petel, contradicting the general opposite line hammered out by the Prime Minister. “I traded first [dimanche soir] with Stéphane Séjourné [le secrétaire général de Renaissance, ndlr]. I received an email from Gabriel Attal’s office. Sejourné sent me “yes, go for it”. And Attal’s office: “Go for it, you’re going to win”she said on Monday Liberation. Arithmetic question, justification
