Info Tours | Legislative elections in Touraine: the final casting of the second round in the department

On June 30, nearly 70% of voters in Indre-et-Loire turned out for the first round of early legislative elections in the department. A massive turnout, unprecedented in the 21st century for this type of election. How many will there be on Sunday, July 7 for the second round? The stakes will remain high with the National Rally competing in 4 out of 5 constituencies, which is unprecedented in the territory. It is even in a good position to win one or two seats.

In this context, the Republican Front’s strategy worked at full speed to try to block the far right. The 4 constituencies where there could have been 3 candidates in the second round will ultimately only offer duels. Thus, 3 candidates from the New Popular Front have given up on staying: Marina Coccia in the 5th (Tours-North-West, Fondettes, Bourgueil, etc.), Christelle Gobert in the 2nd (Amboise, Vouvray, Château-Renault) and Sandra Barbier in the 3rd (St-Pierre-des-Corps, Chambray, Loches, etc.).

The outgoing MP for Chinonais Fabienne Colboc – a member of the presidential camp – also withdrew because she came in 3rd position behind the RN and the left. In the 1st constituency, in Tours, no questions arose because there were only 2 qualified candidates.

Here is the choice proposed on Sunday in the 563 polling stations in the department:

1st constituency: Charles Fournier (outgoing MP, member of the Ecologists party and the New Popular Front) against Benoist Pierre (Horizons, member of the President of the Republic’s camp)

2nd constituency: Daniel Labaronne (outgoing deputy, member of the Renaissance party of the President of the Republic) facing Corine Fougeron of the National Rally

3rd constituency: Henri Alfandari (outgoing deputy from Horizons and the presidential camp) against Jules Robin, supported by the National Rally but from the party of Eric Ciotti, contested president of the Republicans party since he wanted to ally himself with the RN

4th constituency: Jean-François Bellanger of the National Rally against Laurent Baumel, socialist member of the New Popular Front

5th constituency: François Ducamp of the National Rally against the outgoing deputy Sabine Thillaye of the MoDem, from the presidential camp

Please note that if you cannot vote on Sunday, there is still time to make a proxy via the website maprocuration.gouv.fr, and have it validated at the Tours and Joué police stations, at the Tours court or at the department’s gendarmeries.
