From this Monday July 1stthe “Agnès McLaren” Women’s House opens its doors to Montpellierunder the aegis ofAlexander LamyAmbassador of the “women’s house” and patron of the one in Montpellier. This space of the University of Montpellier “outside the walls” is aimed at women victims of violence, whatever it may be: sexual, domestic or intra-family violence, mutilation, incest, harassment, etc.

A team made up of health professionals, midwife, forensic doctor, gynecologist, pediatrician, psychologist and social worker intervenes in a cross-functional manner and offers 4 personalized care pathways:

  • Support for women who are victims of domestic violence,
    intra-family, sexual and sexist with coordinated medical, somatic,
    psychological, social, legal, assistance with the reconstruction and reintegration of all women, including women with disabilities.
  • Support for pregnant women in vulnerable situations, with general care for vulnerability, pregnancy being identified as both a “risky” moment and a privileged moment for the detection of this violence (first 1000 days).
  • Prevention, family planning and organization of medical and surgical abortions.
  • Support for women victims of Female Sexual Mutilation (FGM), with medical and surgical consultations, surgical repairs, psychological and sexological follow-up.

On the occasion of the opening of this Women’s House, two agreements were signed, that of the #ReStart agreement and that of the partnership agreement with the Montpellier Bar.

While the gender equality plan represents the crucial point of Emmanuel Macron’s five-year term, the government’s objective would be to deploy a Women’s House structure in each department of the territory. Currently, the Ministry of Health estimates that it has financed around fifty structures.

Signature de la convention #ReStart

Formed in March 2021, under the leadership of Dr Ghada Hatem, founder of the Maison des femmes de Saint-Denis in 2016, the Re#Start collective brings together these structures which treat and support women victims of violence using this unique model.

Concerning the labeled structures respecting the #ReStart specifications, around twenty are open including Martinique and Réunion.

The CIDDF had also announced the creation of two Women’s Houses in Hérault in 2024, one in Montpellier and one in Béziers. The collective’s ambition is to reach 50 members within 5 years.

The women’s house, located 1065 avenue de la Pompignane, 34000 Montpellier, is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
