After having assured Monday 1is July that it remained in a triangular in the 10e Haute-Garonne constituency, the Minister Delegate for Local Authorities and Rural Affairs, Dominique Faure, decided on Tuesday to withdraw her candidacy at the request, according to her, of the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, and the Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal.

At the end of the first round, the outgoing MP came third, with 28.99% of the vote, behind the socialist Jacques Oberti, for the New Popular Front (36.24%), and the candidate of the National Rally, Caroline Falgas-Colomina (30.37%).

In a message posted on X to announce his withdrawal, Mme Faure claims that “the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister [lui] asked to withdraw [s]a candidature au second tour ». « With complete confidence in their approaches to find solutions for the benefit of our country which finds itself in a very difficult situation, I do so today with responsibility.”she added.

Fourth member of the government to withdraw

So far, Mme Faure wanted to maintain his candidacy in order not to give “as the only choice” to the voters “to vote RN or LFI”they estimate that the socialist candidate M. Oberti “is linked by an alliance with LFI”. “With my ability to bring people together and go beyond the political divisions that block developments within our country, and more particularly in our peri-urban and rural areas, this retention was for me the best solution to beat the extremes.”she explains in her message posted Tuesday morning.

She is the fourth member of the government to have to withdraw in this period between the two rounds of early legislative elections – organised after the dissolution of the National Assembly announced on 9 June by the President of the Republic. The withdrawal of Mme Faure follows those of Marie Guévenoux (overseas) in Essonne, Sabrina Agresti-Roubache (citizenship and city) in Marseille and Fadila Khattabi (elderly and disabled people) in Côte-d’Or.
