Nador is distinguished by a promising industrial, logistical, touristic and fishing potential, based on abundant natural resources, advanced techniques and a robust infrastructure, including ports, road networks and fertile agricultural plains, affirms a recent study by the Arab Democratic Center.

Entitled “The industrial function and some of its infrastructural factors in the province of Nador (north-east of Morocco)”, the research, developed by researchers Al Mounim Bilal, Ben Rabia Khadija and Sebai Abdelkader, strives to shed light in detail on the distinctive characteristics of the industrial function in the province of Nador, by adopting a thorough comparative approach with the other provinces of the Oriental region of Morocco.

The study highlights that the province of Nador has emerged as a regional leader, rising to the same rank as the prefecture of Oujda-Angad. This positioning is reinforced by the economic particularities that were attributed to the prefecture within the framework of the Regional Land Use Plan (SRAT) of the Oriental region in 2021.

The province is distinguished by the presence of four major industrial zones, notably the Selouane industrial zone, the Selouane industrial park, the Béni Ensar port zone, and the industrial axis linking Selouane to Zaïo. The study also highlights that industrial projects are underway, such as the Nador West Med Port Free Industrial Zone (NWM), which is scheduled for completion in 2024.

According to the document, it is undeniable that these industrial zones are strategically justified for industrial establishment. Among the most determining factors are the technical and logistical infrastructures, such as ports, roads, and railways, as well as the high density of means of communication and transport that contribute to the reduction of transport costs in the industrial sector.

By deepening the analysis, the research reveals that the Selouane industrial zone, part of the MED-EST Plan, is a dynamic hub thanks to its modern equipment and expansion capacities. The Selouane industrial park, an immediate neighbor, complements this dynamic with its facilities dedicated to innovation and cutting-edge production. The Béni Ensar port area offers strategic access to international markets, thus strengthening the competitiveness of manufactured products in Nador. Finally, the industrial axis linking Selouane to Zaïo constitutes an essential corridor, facilitating the movement of goods and services while integrating the agricultural and industrial resources of the region.

The document thus highlights not only the extensive economic potential of the province but also its capacity to attract substantial investments, to promote sustainable growth and to position itself as a key player in the Moroccan industrial landscape and beyond. These advances will be further reinforced with the port of Nador West Med, whose strategic positioning and capacity to accommodate large-scale vessels give it major advantages and make this project a real logistics platform.
