By harshly punishing the presidential camp during the first round of the legislative elections, the voters sent him a clear message: by not giving him an absolute majority in the Palais-Bourbon, they no longer want the policies carried out in his name in recent years.
By placing the RN candidates in the lead at the national level, these same voters have certainly reinforced their anger of June 9, which they expressed on the occasion of the European elections. But by ranking the candidates of the New Popular Front (NFP) in second place, they have also demonstrated a strong expectation of ecological and social change, which the extreme right cannot claim to embody.
In Burgundy, the NFP presented ecologist candidates: Jean-Luc Delpeuch in Saône-et-Loire, Florence Loury in Yonne and Catherine Hervieu in Côte-d’Or. In difficult conditions, all three campaigned vigorously to ensure the triumph of the left and ecology, while respecting the institutions. They thus convinced thousands of voters, whom the Ecologists of Burgundy thank for their choice.
This Monday, a new election begins. In the four departments of Burgundy, each time they were placed in third position, the NFP candidates spontaneously withdrew in favor of the Republican candidate best placed to beat the extreme right. This is what Jean-Luc Delpeuch did in the first constituency of Saône-et-Loire. Without hesitating for a moment. The environmentalist candidates who came in second position, for their part, remained in the race. Thus, Florence Loury and Catherine Hervieu will fight the RN in Auxerrois and in the second constituency of Côte-d’Or.
For the Ecologists of Burgundy, the time has come to defend the Republic, the rule of law and individual and public freedoms, which are currently under very serious threat. Consequently, we call unreservedly on voters to choose, for the second round on July 7, the candidates of the Republican arc.
Wherever it is still possible to beat the extreme right in our region, no vote should be missed. We therefore call on the candidates of the former presidential majority who have not yet done so to withdraw. The hour is serious. It calls for an end to political calculations and egotistical demonstrations. This is why none of the candidates of the former presidential majority who came in third position could decently take the risk of electing an RN MP by maintaining themselves against all reason.
