Severe storms: end of orange alert for all departments this Sunday

Météo-France has lifted the orange thunderstorm vigilance for all departments in its latest forecast bulletin published this Sunday June 30 at 6 a.m.

“In this second part of the night from Saturday to Sunday, storm activity is declining. Rain is persisting in the Grand Est but is losing intensity. A few moderate storm cells are still circulating near the Vosges. The alert level may be lowered to yellow”announced Météo-France this Sunday, June 30.

Torrential storms in the South-West

Torrential storms affected the Tarn department on Saturday, “where we recorded 61 mm in one hour in Dourgne (81), 56 mm in one hour in Montredon (81) and 66.6 mm in three hours at the same place. In Castres we recorded 87 km/h in gusts”indicated Météo-France.

The Lot experienced storms with rainfall intensities of around 20 to 30 mm/h at the start of the afternoon.

“In Yonne, a gust of 130 km/ha was recorded in Tonnerre. In Aube, a gust of 107 km/ha was recorded in Troyes. Large hailstones were observed in Meuse. Heavy rainfall affected Haute-Marne and Meuse with peaks exceeding 60 mm in a few hours.”according to the weather services.

Sometimes significant damage

Saturday evening, 1,400 homes were without electricity in Meurthe-et-Moselle in the Piennes and Landres sector, in the east of the department, “after a line cut”the prefecture said in a press release.

Further west, due to the heavy rains suffered in recent hours, several municipalities in the department “have suffered sometimes significant damage: significant rising water, flooded cellars, submerged roads”indicated the Indre prefecture.

In Lorraine, where several festive events were canceled, the journey of the Olympic flame was able to take place in the Meuse. The final relay handovers, however, had to be brought forward to escape the storms.

Beware of floods, particularly in Occitania

This Sunday, from the Grand Est to Limousin and Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, the stormy residues will give rain. Elsewhere, it will be a return to calm with clouds, and a brighter sun near the Mediterranean. In the afternoon, the risk of thunderstorms will persist in Rhône-Alpes, and showers will still be possible from the Grand Est to the Massif Central.

Météo-France placed 13 departments on yellow alert this Sunday, June 30, due to flood risks. This alert particularly concerns part of the Grand Est region, Dordogne, Corrèze and Lot as well as Savoie and Isère. In the Occitanie region, Hérault and Gard are concerned, while a storm alert, yellow today, continues from the Pyrénées-Atlantiques to the Pyrénées-Orientales.
