Legislative elections: can the RN obtain an absolute majority in the second round? : News

The historic score of the National Rally in the first round of the early legislative elections suggests that it is possible that the far right will win an absolute majority in the National Assembly. Do you think this is possible?

After the results of the first round of the legislative elections, the absolute majority has become tangible for the National Rally, which won 33.15% of the votes if we count its alliance with some Republicans. According to the latest projections, the extreme right could win between 285 and 315 seats in the Assembly, knowing that 289 are needed to obtain the absolute majority.

But these historic results have pushed the New Popular Front and the presidential camp to call for a blockade of the extreme right, as was the case during the last two presidential elections. Indeed, the image of Jordan Bardella at Matignon has strongly displeased Emmanuel Macron, who asks voters: “Not one vote should go to the extreme right.” Voters of the New Popular Front were also called upon to do the same by figures of the left alliance.

Withdrawals to block

The other record of this first round is the number of possible three-way races. Three candidates managed to reach 12.5% of the vote, qualifying them for the second round, in 307 constituencies. But the left and the presidential camp have called for their candidates to withdraw, which could prevent them from blocking the RN. They have until Tuesday, July 2 at 6 p.m. to withdraw.

As of 6 p.m. on July 1, 173 candidates who came in third place in their constituency have withdrawn, according to figures from Le Monde. 122 from the left, 50 from the presidential camp and one from the LR.
