Hurricane Beryl: the eye of the phenomenon passes over Carriacou and Petite Martinique in Grenada

Petite Martinique and Carriacou felt the full fury of Hurricane Beryl. These islands, which are part of the territory of Grenada, have reported only material damage. For the moment, there are no casualties to deplore.

In an address broadcast on YouTube, the Prime Minister of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, Dickon Mitchell, reported the total destruction of the island of Carriacou, which is only 31 km². The 10,000 inhabitants are still in the eye of the hurricane.

The second part of the cyclone will begin its crossing.

Within half an hour, Carriacou was flattened.

Located near Carriacou, Petite Martinique, which is only 2 km² and has 900 inhabitants, is also devastated.

There is no electricity. Communications are cut off. For the moment, there are no casualties to deplore.

Grenada cannot yet organize relief efforts, as the second part of the hurricane is expected to pass through the two islands, where a state of emergency is in effect. Everyone must stay safe.

The sea is still rough. We have to wait at least 3 or 4 hours before we can help the victims. All the countries in the region have promised to help Grenada.

Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell will travel there as soon as conditions permit.

He promised to send prefabricated houses, drinking water and food. Funds will also be released to help the victims.
