With this partnership, sealed in the presence of the Moroccan ambassador to Germany, Zohour Alaoui, the two countries are deepening their cooperation in the development of the green hydrogen industry, electricity trade, decarbonization, climate adaptation and skills training.
“Morocco has excellent conditions for producing electricity from wind and sun, with which it can cover the needs of its own economy and, in the future, also start exporting green hydrogen to Germany,” underlines a press release from the German Federal Ministries of Economic Cooperation and Development and Economy and Climate Protection.
Morocco and Germany can draw on rich experience by working together, particularly in the use of wind and solar energy, adds the same source, noting that the BMZ provided support for the construction of the most largest solar thermal power plant in the world in Ouarzazate, which supplies electricity to around 1.3 million people.
“Engaging in the production of green hydrogen is the next step for Morocco,” notes the press release, noting that solar and wind power plants allow large-scale implementation and therefore sustainable production of green hydrogen. industrial scale and the development of green economic sectors.
He added that Germany is already participating in the construction of the first reference plant for the production of green hydrogen in Morocco, which should be completed in the coming years.
The factory should produce around 10,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year, enough to produce 50,000 tonnes of green steel, indicates the same source, affirming that this project is also intended to serve as a reference project for the profitability of the production of hydrogen. green hydrogen in Africa and to strengthen the confidence of private investors in Morocco.
Other investments will follow on the basis of the new Moroccan-German alliance for climate and energy, it is announced.
