Morocco’s Permanent Delegate Ambassador to UNESCO, Samir Addahre, and the Deputy Director General of UNESCO, Xing Qu, signed, Friday in Paris, the agreement relating to the organization in the Kingdom of the 36th session of the International Coordinating Council of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Program (ICC-MAB).

This session, which will take place from July 1 to 5 in Agadir, will be organized in partnership with the National Agency for the Development of Oasis Zones and Argan (ANDZOA).

UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Program is an instrument that aims to establish a scientific basis for improving relationships between individuals and their environment. It combines hard, natural and social sciences to improve people’s livelihoods and safeguard natural and managed ecosystems, thereby promoting innovative approaches to economic development that are socially and culturally appropriate and environmentally sustainable.

On 1 July, the MAB-ICC will host a one-day conference on soils and their crucial role in biodiversity, ecosystems and nutrient cycling. The conference, entitled “Rooted in Resilience: Discovering the Importance of Soil in Sustainable Development”, aims to discuss soil health measurement activities in UNESCO-designated sites, engage stakeholders in capacity building on sustainable soil use, and foster the development of flagship projects demonstrating best practices.
