From security guard to fashion designer. This is the story of Priscila Horgne, a woman of taste, with a pretty Brazilian accent, for whom the world of fashion no longer holds any secrets. Swimwear, beach outings, little shorts, dresses, children’s clothing, with her brand “Mariapimenta”, this seamstress based in Menton offers all types of pretty creations on the beach theme. This Friday evening at 7 p.m., to celebrate the opening of the Francis-Palmero Esplanade night market. In partnership with her, many local artisans.

After having ensured the protection of “great people”, Priscila gets married. Her two children are both suffering from a rare disease. The young mother decides to stay at home to take care of them full time. But little by little, she goes round in circles. “My cousin has a large sewing workshop in Brazil, my whole family sews. She makes lingerie and has 40 employees. I asked her for a machine, she immediately told me: but go for it, go for it, have fun!”.

Her family, especially her grandmother, sends her fabric from Brazil that is not used by local workshops. Priscila gives them a second life. “I would like to send a message, don’t throw away your old clothes. Everything is reusable, transformable. Fabric can have so many other lives! We can make clothes, cushions… I love having fun transforming this recycled fabric.”. In the collection, items for all sizes, all tastes, and all colors! An inspiration that surely comes from enriching encounters. During her career as a security guard, the designer meets influential people. She covers several fashion shows, including two by Roberto Cavalli. She will even organize a fashion show for the wife of the great stylist. “They are really nice people, thanks to these experiences, I know the organization of parades well.”

An ethical parade

Priscila has been participating in the night market for three years now. Encouraged by her friend and great fashion designer Robert, from the Nowosad workshop, renowned in Menton, she decides to organize a big parade to celebrate the inauguration of the night market. “I take care of the organization, the creation, I sew, I plan meals, backstage”she says, while finishing sewing the pieces that will be presented this evening. “But all this with the help of my family! And many local artisans from the market participate in the event with me. It’s important to collaborate together. Show people that recycling old clothes or fabric can create unique and very varied pieces.”.

Different materials, different styles. For this special occasion, Priscila’s dad found an exceptional fabric, “a punch line that comes directly from a 70s Coke ad! You’ll see what I did with it…”says the designer, enthusiastically, leaving the mystery lingering.

In the meantime, see you this evening to discover the surprises planned by Priscila, and all the other artisans of the Menton market!
