Albi: he escapes a road check and commits suicide

A man killed himself after evading a traffic stop this Thursday afternoon. At the end of the day, the Prosecutor’s Office wanted to clarify how this news story unfolded, after the circulation of inaccurate information.

First of all, the man did not open fire on the police but only used his weapon against himself. It all started during an ordinary road check at the roundabout located at the end of the 2×2 lane portion of the RN88 at the entrance to Albi on the north side.

The driver who was at the wheel of a van according to the first elements, would have refused to comply with this control. He was chased by the gendarmes over a relatively short distance, before stopping and ending his life using a buckshot-type pellet gun, not a pump-action shotgun.

If the rumor of shots aimed at the gendarmes emerged, it was because the bullet would have shattered the rear window of the vehicle and given the police the feeling that they were being attacked. But no other shooting was ultimately recorded and the gendarmes who intervened after receiving reinforcements were only able to note the death of the driver.

It remains to be determined why this man fled and why he ended his life? His vehicle was obviously searched. Apart from the weapon, no suspicious goods were found, notably no drugs, and the Prosecutor’s Office is currently orienting itself towards the gesture of a fragile person even if the investigations will have to confirm it.
