Here’s Why You Have Trouble Waking Up in the Morning

Are you one of those people who have to set multiple alarms to be able to get out of bed? This could harm the quality of sleep and could even disrupt brain function, according to American doctors.

“It feels good in the moment to hit snooze and delay starting your day, but it hurts your sleep quality,” Dr.r Brandon Peters, a neurologist and sleep medicine specialist at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Seattle, Washington.

This bad habit affects the last stage of the sleep cycle. This stage is particularly important for memory processing and creative thinking, said Dr.r Peters.

This explains the difficulty in waking up in the morning. The fragmentation of this phase of sleep could therefore have an impact on these brain functions.

Other reasons behind this phenomenon

Sleep disturbances are another important reason why an individual may have difficulty waking up, explained Dr.re Cathy Goldstein, a sleep medicine specialist at the Michigan Medicine Sleep Disorders Centers, told the American media.

One example where waking up is more exhausting is sleep inertia, a disorder where cognitive and motor skills are reduced for several minutes or even hours.

However, the main cause of this phenomenon remains lack of sleep. For the Dre Goldstein says the number of hours of sleep required varies for everyone, but everyone should get as much sleep as possible each day in order to start the day off right.

On average, adults need seven to nine hours of sleep per night.

Workers who have atypical schedules may also experience this same difficulty. For example, “some people are naturally night owls, but their schedule requires them to get up early,” said Dr.re Alicia Roth, a clinician at the Cleveland Clinic Sleep Disorders Center in Ohio.

“In an ideal world, we would sleep when we are tired and wake up when we wake up. That is not the world we live in,” she added.
