A suspect neutralized by bullet by the police during an intervention

A 22-year-old young man was neutralized by police fire in Saint-Mandé (Val-de-) during an intervention in the middle of the street, during the night from Friday to Saturday, we learned
News17. The suspect pointed a handgun at law enforcement, prompting them to return fire. Seriously injured, the man was transported to Henri-Mondor hospital in Créteil when he was between life and death. His motivations remain to be clarified.

According to initial information, the events began when a 36-year-old man (and not a woman as initially mentioned, editor's note) alerted the police around 1 a.m. He indicated that he was followed in the street by an individual who threatened to kill him, from the Saint-Mandé metro (Line 1) on avenue de , and that he was in Saint-Mandé. A suspect he would have spotted from Nation station, in Paris. The victim took refuge at the city's municipal police station located at Place Charles-Digeon. The municipal police tried to control the individual, but he displayed a weapon. “At the sight of the police, the accused fled then ended up stopping while facing the police, while holding a handgun in his hands”describes the Créteil parquet floor. The officials then used an electric pulse gun (PIE) to subdue him, without success.

A team of three police officers from the anti-crime brigade (BAC) arrived on site. The suspect refused to drop his handgun, pointing it at the officers, all three of whom then opened fire. Hit in the abdomen, the attacker was treated by emergency services. He was armed with a 9 mm caliber Sig Sauer P320 handgun.
“with one chambered cartridge and two unfired cartridges”specifies the prosecution. The man was also armed with a long kitchen knife. “The victim of the threats declared that at no time had the accused made any anti-Semitic comments”underlines the same source, while initial reports during the night reported anti-Semitic insults.

Video surveillance images confirm “the unfolding of the facts”

“The first exploitation of the video surveillance confirmed the course of the facts, and in particular the use, by the three police officers, of their administrative weapon while they were pointed at by the weapon of the accused”details the parquet floor.

The police findings were still underway at Place Charles-Digeon at 3 a.m. Two investigations have been opened in this matter. The first of the counts of repeated death threats, carrying category B and D weapons, attempted homicide on a person holding public authority, which was entrusted to the police officers of the Departmental Judicial Police Service of Val-de- Marne (SDPJ 94). The general inspectorate of the national police (IGPN) was seized of the second investigation “on the conditions of use of their weapons with regard to the principles of self-defense”adds the prosecution.

“Our colleagues saved a life”

“People need to realize that our colleagues saved a life, or even more, in the face of an attack which we will see if it will be classified as terrorist”reacts Linda Kebbab, national secretary of the Un1té union. “The presence of police officers everywhere, in large numbers, armed, added to their courage and sense of duty provides unquestionable security for the lives of our fellow citizens. Bravo to them”.

“Despite numerous warnings, the potential suspect did not wish to cooperate with the injunctions given so that he would drop his weapon, the Vincennes officials had to fire in order to avoid a tragedy”writes the Alliance Police Nationale du Val-de-Marne union, in a press release on Facebook, which brings “his support” to the national and municipal police officers who participated in this intervention. “Thanks to the coolness and professionalism of Vincennois colleagues, no injuries have been reported in the ranks of the police”.
