Surprise for Bordeaux, Ajaccio relegated!

ASSE passed the DNCG stage without incident and can therefore prepare for the next season with confidence. The fate of another legendary French football club was being decided today, and pessimism reigned. The supervisory body has delivered its verdict.

Bordeaux on borrowed time

The Girondins passed this Thursday morning in front of the DNCG (National Directorate of Management Control). Like every year since the takeover of the club by Gérard Lopez in 2021, the club is trembling before passing this examination of its financial situation. The former owner of LOSC made risky bets last summer, investing massively during the transfer window in the hope of moving up to Ligue 1. In reality, the payroll of the workforce has never been adapted to a team playing in the 2nd division.

The Girondins requested a postponement of their hearing originally scheduled for June 19. According to sources, he would be missing between 30 and 43 million euros to be able to start the next season in Ligue 2. He is therefore today exposed to the same sanction as 2022: demotion to the National. In the event of demotion, the Bordeaux club should appeal to gain time, with the hope of finally succeeding in completing a process initiated last September: the search for a partner capable of economically supporting the club .

The DNCG delivered its verdict this afternoon. According to information from Sud Ouest, the football financial policeman has granted a reprieve to the Girondins:

“The National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG) decided this Thursday to grant a stay of proceedings to the Girondins, following the hearing of the club management in the morning. This means that president-owner Gérard Lopez still has a few days (new hearing on July 9 at the latest) to conclude the loan that he has been negotiating for a long time with an American fund. »

To everyone’s surprise, the Corsican club was administratively relegated. A sanction that they announce they will contest!

“AC Ajaccio was interviewed today by the National Management Control Directorate as part of the review of its situation for the 2024-2025 sports season. At the end of this hearing, the DNCG pronounced AC Ajaccio’s relegation. This decision comes after the presentation of a budget that would allow ACA to continue to evolve in the professional world. However, this requires the production of additional elements. The club’s management will appeal this decision to provide the required documents and provide full satisfaction to the DNCG in the coming days. Mr. Fattaccioli, the club’s vice-president in charge of finances, has committed to the DNCG to provide the requested elements within the allotted time. The management remains confident that the club will pass the appeal and be reinstated in the Ligue 2 championship.”
