Morocco announces a new tax reform allowing inactive companies to withdraw from the tax system under certain conditions.

The Moroccan government, represented by Mustapha Baitas, Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament and government spokesperson, announced on Wednesday a new tax reform intended for inactive companies. Contrary to rumors of bankruptcy, this measure aims to offer a withdrawal option for these entities, the minister clarified during a press conference closing the Council of Ministers.

Baitas explained that these changes follow amendments to the finance law, adopted with the collaboration of parliament. These inactive companies, which have not fulfilled any tax obligations and have not undertaken any activity or operation during the last three fiscal years, are now faced with an alternative: regularize their situation or leave the tax system under certain conditions.

These conditions include the regularization of tax obligations temporarily suspended, via a special procedure guaranteeing the rights of the companies concerned. In addition, the scheme also targets companies that have not generated any turnover or have paid only the minimum necessary contribution.

This reform is designed to allow an orderly exit from the tax system for inactive companies, thus allowing the authorities to focus their efforts and support on active companies.

Minister Baitas also reiterated the government’s commitment to pursuing in-depth tax reform, notably affecting corporate tax, value added tax and income tax. These reforms, according to him, have already succeeded in significantly increasing tax revenues, contributing to the stability and economic growth of the country.
