In partnership with the City of Lisieux, the State, the SNCF, the Normandy Region and the EPFN (Public Land Establishment of Normandy), the Lisieux-Normandie agglomeration has been working for several years on the transformation of the Lisieux station district (Calvados).

It is in this context that the agglomeration purchased, in 2020, the former Régina hotel and its surroundings, identified as “a high-stakes site” to accommodate, in the future, a new offer of housing and services. tertiary.

A tragic fire 20 years ago

Four years later, no one knows if the old hotel will be razed or rehabilitated. It has been disused since the fire which claimed the lives of a young German tourist and a firefighter, Omar Ouidir, on May 22, 2004.

“A study was carried out in 2023 to check the condition of the building structure. It appears necessary to continue the investigations by carrying out technical studies to quantify and objectivize the feasibility of a rehabilitation or deconstruction of the building.

Christian Anne, advisor responsible for urban development.

According to the 2023 study, the structure was not destabilized by the fire. “However, the question of the load-bearing capacity of the floors must be verified according to the use which will be assigned to them” specifies the elected official.

60,000 euros of study

As in all cases of wasteland resorption, the community relies on the EPFN and the Normandy Region to carry out its projects. The three entities will participate, to varying degrees, in the financing of this new technical study, the amount of which is estimated at 60,000 euros, excluding tax.
