A hiker reported the discovery of bones and black shorts on the edge of a stream, below the Bataou peak. This find immediately triggered a new wave of research in the Saint-Lary-Soulan area.
The gendarmes quickly organized a search operation around the GPS point provided by the hiker. Their efforts uncovered other potential clues: a pair of glasses, a sock and scattered bones.
According to the New Republic of the Pyrenees: “the photographed bones were quickly recognized as being of animal origin by specialized technicians. As for the pair of glasses, it cannot be linked to the disappearance of Mattéo Michel since they were a woman’s frame. On the other hand, doubt persists about the shorts found by the hiker and the sock discovered by the police.“
As the Tarbes public prosecutor’s office points out to France 3 Occitanie, caution remains essential in this investigation carried out under the direction of an investigating judge. Ongoing DNA analyzes could provide crucial answers to this mystery which has haunted the Pyrenees for almost a year.
