In Marseille, will the trial of former MP Delogu (LFI) be postponed?

Arriving at the Marseille judicial court on December 13, 2023, Sébastien Delogu shook hands, greeted his support committee, took a few selfies. There was an air of the electoral campaign under the moldings of the courthouse.

Sébastien Delogu, who was then deputy for La France insoumise (LFI) was summoned by the courts to answer for violence which allegedly occurred on March 10, 2023 on the sidelines of the blockade of the Saint-Exupéry high school in protest against the pension reform.

The deputy principal and the CPE of the establishment had at the time filed a complaint, claiming that the parliamentarian had indulged in physical violence, which the principal concerned denied.

In December, his lawyer Me Yones Taguelmint requested – and obtained – a postponement of the trial to obtain additional information. Rescheduled for June 25, the hearing will fall… five days before the legislative elections in which the outgoing deputy is seeking re-election following the dissolution of the National Assembly.

According to our information, his counsel should therefore once again ask the magistrates for a postponement of the trial; the latter, however, have no obligation to postpone. If he were found guilty, Sébastien Delogu could be given the additional penalty of ineligibility.
