On May 31, the first stone of the future Landes Departmental Sports Center was laid in Mont-de-Marsan. Three sports structures will coexist.

Since February, the construction site of the Landes Departmental Sports Center has been progressing slowly but surely in Mont-de-Marsan. On May 31, its construction reached a milestone: the first stone of the base building was laid. This enclosure should come out of the ground in mid-2025. The first meetings around this project date back to 2015 at the instigation of Henri Bedat, vice-president of the Departmental Council responsible for sports, and Philippe Courtesseyre, then deputy director of the departmental youth and sports service, recalled Christian Boutoille, president of Profession Sport et Loisirs Landes, on this occasion. We participated in the discussions on the organization and objectives of what will become an essential meeting place for Landes association sport”.

“Working together for the good of sport”

Between the IUT of Mont-de-Marsan and the Canopé 40 workshop, the foundations of the future building are already visible, which will ultimately have a wooden structure, photovoltaic panels and a main facade punctuated by contrasts of empty and full, supposed to recall the proportions of the Greek Olympic temples.

With a total surface area of 884 m², the future Departmental Sports House, whose budget is estimated at 3.45 million euros, will accommodate three structures within it. Namely: the Landes Sports Integration and Development Service (SSID), a unique service in France which organizes physical and sporting activities throughout the year for people with disabilities, the Profession Sports et Loisirs Landes association (PSLL) which works for the development of sports employment and will be the manager of the site, as well as the Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee (CDOS).

“This is one of the strengths of this house for all those who are interested in sport because they will be able to find, in the same place, people to help them and answers to their questions, we will thus be able to satisfy many of the clubs’ expectations and committees, with always the same obsession: working together for the good of sport and carrying out exciting projects”, reacted Philippe Crosnier, president of CDOS 40. As a reminder, the Landes department is among those with the most sports licensees: 217 per 1000 inhabitants compared to 177 across the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
