the essential
From June 1st to 24th, eight first year bac pro students from Jean-Baylet high school flew to Slovenia with two of their teachers. An enriching trip from both a personal and professional point of view.

For years, the Jean-Baylet high school has organized school trips with the aim of perfecting students’ foreign languages and introducing them to new cultures. Italy, Spain and even England, many were the destinations where the students landed. But the Covid-19 crisis has dashed the hopes of these classes to move to other countries.

A project on track since last year

It is therefore this motivation that pushed Ms. Delon, an English teacher, and Mr. Pouyer, a History-Geography and EMC teacher, to set up the professional internship project in Slovenia from scratch. Initially, 23 students were ready to take on the challenge, in the end, 8 of them were selected to take off to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.

For more than a year, these two teachers, supported by their colleagues and the management of the establishment, organized everything: taking care of plane tickets and accommodation, finding partners to welcome the students into a company , administrative procedures and Personalized Approach (PA) hours to educate future travelers to find their way and organize themselves in total autonomy in unknown territory, etc.

Thanks to hard work and great team cohesion, this trip was more than a success, as Mrs. Delon describes it, her eyes shining with emotion: “This experience was difficult to organize, but when we see the result, we can only be proud of our success. It is a great reward for everyone’s work, and I think that this trip was as much an enriching experience for the students as for us.” Mr. Pouyer shares this feeling: “It was a real pleasure to see them evolve throughout the year but especially during these three weeks. We also wanted to thank the parents for their trust, the director for his enthusiasm for our project, the school manager who helped us a lot and, of course, the seriousness of the students.”

“If I hadn’t gone there, I would have regretted it all my life”

During these three weeks, Maëlle Hourlier, Maeva Fritiau, Minéa Heyse, Lorgan Behague, Aristide Panegos, Yunes Baidinasri, Gabin Vidal and Thomas Grimaux flew to Slovenia to complete a professional internship that will remain etched in their memory forever. The three girls from the first year of the bac pro logistics and the five boys from the first year of the bac pro melec were therefore distributed among various partner companies during these three weeks of internship. These include the companies Decathlon, T-2, Arba + and Telemach.

More than a professional experience, this internship was also a personal enrichment. “There, the people are very open-minded, caring and respectful. The landscapes are superb,” confide the three friends. For the boys, this immersion was also a breath of fresh air: “Personally, it’s not a country I would have thought of if I wanted to go on vacation, but ultimately, it’s superb, it’s really disorienting.”

And when we ask them how living together in the youth hostel went, they answer with a smile: “Living with eight people at once is really weird! You have to adapt to each other’s lifestyle, cook for each other every day, do the cleaning. That’s also taught us something.”

This Slovenian trip therefore rhymes with nostalgia, memories and learning.

Next year, heading towards Slovenia for the logistics and melec sectors and immediate takeoff for road drivers towards Denmark!
