Lieutenant-Colonel Jean-Luc, reservist in the 1st Reg since 2011, will carry the flame on Wednesday June 19 in Orange in Vaucluse.

He has recently known the place and the time slot of a day which will be “unique”, on June 19. Lieutenant-Colonel Jean-Luc, reservist at 1er Foreign engineering regiment of Laudun-l’Ardoise, is one of the 11,000 people selected to carry the Olympic flame. “I am a lover of sport and the values of Olympism. It will be a great moment to carry this flameexplains the one who joined the reserve of 1er Reg in 2011 after an active military career of more than thirty-five years, mainly in engineering. It is a pride to wear it on behalf of all my military comrades and the 1er Reg.”

On June 19, the flame will be in Vaucluse. She will start the route in Rustrel, before climbing Mont Ventoux, passing through Orange and finally arriving in Avignon. “I was hoping to wear it in Orange, the town where I live.” The 59-year-old soldier received an email in recent days telling him the place and time at which he will brandish the torch over 200 meters. If the reservist has the chance to live this experience, it is thanks to one of his three sons, Quentin, who had the idea of sponsoring his candidacy. “He wrote a text explaining why I deserve to carry the flame. I added a few lines to complete the application.”

Drawn at random from 30,000 applications

The selection took place in several stages. Among the 30,000 applications collected during the Club Paris 2024 campaign, open to the general public, 5,000 were drawn randomly. Then, a jury selected the 500 bearers of the precious torch. “I’m going to savor every moment. My family will be there to share this moment with me.” 1er Reg wants to send a few men to support the reservist.

If the moment he carries the flame will be short, between three and four minutes, the Vauclusian will have the opportunity to enjoy more of the Olympic atmosphere in July, in the capital, in a very different context. He will be engaged with the regiment in support of the internal security forces to ensure security during the preparation for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. A double dose of pleasure.
