At the start of the year, LG unveiled its latest advances in OLED TVs before CES 2024 with its new M4, G4, C4 and B4 series. During these summer sales, it’s the 55-inch version of the C4 series that interests us. This mid-range 4K TV benefits from a complete technical sheet and brings some welcome improvements in terms of brightness and refresh rate. A welcome improvement on LG’s C series
LG’s new C4 series continues to delight users who cannot afford a high-end TV. Even though these screens still do not have the MLA (Micro Lens Array) exclusive to the G4 and M4 series, we have here a particularly pleasant OLED evo panel in 4K definition (3,840 x 2,160 pixels). Thanks to its Alpha 9 Gen 7 chip, the LG OLED55C4 has Brightness Booster technology which provides much better brightness and optimization of HDR content via OLED Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro.
Another new feature of LG’s C4 series is the refresh rate which increases to 144 Hz, including for the 42 and 48 inch models which were once more behind technically. Enough to benefit from an even more fluid and clearer display. On the audio side, the LG OLED55C4 has a 2.2 sound system of 40 W RMS with two front speakers and two woofers. This TV supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X formats as well as the WOW Orchestra function which synchronizes it with an LG soundbar.
The arrival of webOS 24 with 5 years of updates
Who says new series says updating the operating system. The LG OLED55C4 is one of the TVs to welcome webOS 24 for its Smart TV interface with the promise of five years of updates on this OS. This allows its lifespan to be extended. We find the classic functions of a Smart TV: navigation on SVOD platforms, compatibility with voice assistants… WebOS 24 also marks the arrival of Chromecast to stream content from an Android or iOS device, and the Matter protocol to build its home automation ecosystem.
Finally, the LG OLED55C4 does not forget to include four HDMI 2.1 ports, which allows it to support VRR up to 144 Hz as well as ALLM, AMD FreeSync Premium, G-Sync, Dolby Vision Gaming 4K 120 Hz and the eARC protocol for soundbar fans. In short, it is possible to play with a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X in 4K 120 FPS and have an image without tearing, blurring or jerking as well as a input lag more limited than usual.
