The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Mr. Abdellatif Hammouchi, made a working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany from June 24 to 26. During this visithe discussed with officials of the federal police and the Federal Criminal Police Office ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various security areas, including the fight against terrorism, transnational organized crime and securing major events sports.

During this visit, carried out at the official invitation of the German side, Mr. Hammouchi held working meetings with Dieter Romann, head of the German federal police (BUNDESPOLIZEI), Holger Münch, head of the Federal Office of the criminal police (BKA), as well as with several German security officials specializing in the fight against terrorism and the security of sporting events. These meetings aimed to exchange points of view on various security issues of common interest, to evaluate the results of bilateral cooperation in the field of policing and to examine the latest challenges in police cooperation between the two countries, indicates a press release from the DGSN and the DGST.

The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, accompanied by his delegation, also paid a special visit to the headquarters of the Joint Counter-Terrorism Center (GTAZ) in Berlin. They were informed about the working mechanisms of the Center for coordination between the various German security agencies, as well as possible means of cooperation with the Moroccan security services in the fight against the transnational terrorist threat.

The program of this visit also included the examination of possible forms of cooperation between Morocco and Germany in the field of sports security, as well as mechanisms for the exchange of expertise and technical assistance between the two parties to the security of major events, specifies the press release. Mr. Hammouchi was briefed on certain security measures and standards applied by the Berlin police to secure the UEFA Europa League, currently hosted by the Federal Republic of Germany.

Furthermore, as part of strengthening cooperation in this area, a high-level Moroccan security delegation, led by the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, as well as the Head of the Federal Office of criminal police, carried out a field visit to the installations and equipment of the Olympic stadium in Berlin, which hosts certain European sporting events. The delegation also visited the Police Operations Management Center, which oversees security and safety protocols during these football events.

The German experience in organizing and securing major events is part of the advanced preparations of the Moroccan security services with a view to hosting international and continental sporting and security events, such as the 93rd session of the General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) in Marrakech next year, the 2025 African Cup of Nations as well as the 2030 World Cup, co-organized with Spain and Portugal.

This official visit testifies to the importance of bilateral security cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Federal Republic of Germany, taking into account the numerous security areas of common interest. It also reflects the firm involvement of the DGSN and the DGST in international efforts aimed at neutralizing the risks and threats weighing on the regional and international security of the two countries, the press release concludes.
